BMD assists with storm damage clean up

Hearing on the radio that clean up resources were stretched was all it took for BMD Group Board Chairman and Managing Director Mick Power AM to make a quick call to Brisbane City Council and offer a helping hand. Following recent storms, teams of BMD employees have been quietly collecting green waste from kerbsides across Manly and Wynnum. Systematically working their way from street to street, they have removed skip bins of waste and swept up metres of pavements. BMD Constructions Area Manager Paul Cafaro is working closely with Brisbane City Council and estimates a few more weeks work ahead. He said BMD took a similar approach during the 2011 floods. “We always check our employees are safe and ok, then help out in our community as much as we can. Being mainly a civil construction company, BMD has the equipment and man power to help, so it’s all we can do offer support and assistance.” BMD will also be participating in the annual Clean Up Australia Day in late February and is looking for a worthy site to clean up. “We want our efforts to make a real difference to our local environment, so we were looking for somewhere that requires a serious clean-up”. Last year BMD teamed up with local resident John Licastro and cleaned up a dense mangrove area at the end of Lota esplanade. Veolia Environmental Services also provided two large industrial bins which were completely filled with rubbish. ______________________________________________________________________________
