BMD Constructions delivers Cairns Bruce Highway upgrade ahead of program
BMD Constructions has reached practical completion on the $58 million Cairns Southern Access Stage 2 – Robert Road to Foster Road project in Far North Queensland three months ahead of schedule. The project has widened the Bruce Highway from four to six lanes on a 2.1 kilometre section of the Bruce Highway to improve safety, traffic flow and congestion and will enhance access for users of the southern access into Cairns. The team was faced with numerous challenges throughout the project including inclement weather with major drainage works completed during the wet season, as well as heavy traffic along Queensland’s major north-south freight route. Despite this, the works were completed with minimal disruption to traffic and excellent public perception. With a high volume of traffic passing the area of works, traffic management and safety was at the forefront of the project team’s minds. Despite complex works completed, BMD Constructions delivered 120,000 hours with no lost time injuries. This was a result of the project’s strong safety culture and the level of commitment BMD invested into training.
