BMD Group Wins at the Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards
BMD Group has been recognised as an outstanding industry leader at the Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards. In an awards ceremony held last Friday 22 August, the Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade project won Category 5 – projects valued at more than $75 million. The CairnsConnect joint venture comprising of BMD Constructions and Albem Operations, was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to Design and Construct the $150 million Bruce Highway Upgrade into Cairns. The project forms Stage 1 of the Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade Master Plan. As a result of meticulous design and construction of CairnsConnect, the project saw a number of key notable achievements including the completion of the overall project three months ahead of schedule in a tropical monsoon region; achieved an overall score of “outstanding” in all key result areas such as safety, training, environment, stakeholder management, regional development, whole of life, program and commercial; delivered on original commitment and reinvesting $9 million of additional scope back into the project; saw 89% of the total project turnover being invested locally; and fostered a dedicated safety culture program which achieved 504,690 hours LTI free. The project upgrade will improve safety and ease congestion and improve travel times for the 55,000 motorists using the southern access into Cairns.
