Highlights from the First Quarter

The first quarter of 2013 was characterised by numerous project highlights, the completion of iconic projects, and the celebration of a range of notable milestones. The year commenced with significant delivery milestones of projects across the transport and infrastructure, resources and energy and urban development sectors. In January, the Victorian Premier, Hon Denis Napthine officially opened the $20 million eight kilometre section of the Western Highway Duplication project in Victoria. The multi-million dollar Port of Brisbane Motorway Upgrade opened in February eight months ahead of schedule. The project, which has improved the connection between the Gateway Motorway and the Port of Brisbane, has delivered many benefits to local motorists with the inclusion of five new signalised intersections adjoining the motorway. One month ahead of schedule, saw the largest bridge on the Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade project complete installation of 42 deck units, which will eventually enable free flowing traffic to pass over Ray Jones Drive. This is a significant milestone for the $150 million project which has over 85% of the construction value invested locally. The Legacy Way project celebrated the outstanding performance of production by tunnel boring machines (TBM) Annabell and Joyce as they excavate the twin tunnels at record speed. Together both TBMs are averaging excavation at a rate of more than 150 metres per week, which sets the project at a world class standard for production. The excavation of the Eastern Portal has recently reached the halfway mark. Alongside our completed projects, our capability continues to be demonstrated through the progression of major projects including Caval Ridge, Wiggins Island and Hay Point. These projects are a true reflection of our exceptional performance and growth in the resources and energy sector and collectively have achieved over 840,000 hours LTI free. The New Parallel Runway at Brisbane Domestic Airport is now over fifty percent complete and on track for a June 2013 completion date. As part of the Geebung Overpass (GO) Alliance, BMD Constructions, along with Brisbane City Council and SMEC Australia recently started works on site the Robinson Road Open Level Crossing Replacement. The Urbex team recently celebrated its one year anniversary of the Darwin Sales office and has released and sold over 164 lots since launching the sales office. Another key highlight for the Darwin region was the completed construction of the first stage of the Zuccoli residential development, showcasing BMD’s vertically integrated offering. JMac Constructions continue to deliver key projects in the Ipswich corridor for our clients Springfield Land Corporation and Ipswich City Council, while BMD Consulting secured its presence in the Emerald market. Further south, BMD secured works on the Craigieburn Town Centre for Lend Lease and in South Australia we’ve been successful with SA Power at Whitmore Square and the Breakout Creek Enhanced Fish Passage project for Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The quarter also saw BMD continue with their Health, Safety, Environment and Quality program by taking part in a range of National initiatives including Clean Up Australia Day, International Women’s Day and Boardies Day. More recently, 22 graduate staff flew into Queensland to take part in the annual BMD Graduate Initiative and were invited to learn more about the company on board the M.V Curtis Ambassador. BMD has a diverse range of jobs forecasted including urban development, industrial and major road projects, with the capacity, resources and national reach to capitalise on emerging opportunities. ______________________________________________________________________________
