Opened eight kilometre section of the Western Highway Duplication

The Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Catherine King, together with The Victorian Minister for Major Projects, Hon Denis Napthine MP, officially opened 8.1 kilometre section of highway on the Western Highway Duplication project on 31 January 2013. This section was constructed over the past two years by BMD Constructions under arduous conditions including a number of flood events which severely hampered the progress. The opening of 8.1 kilometres of new highway means motorists can now experience the benefits with the first stage of the duplication now officially opened, with another 23 kilometres currently under construction between Burrumbeet and Beaufort. More than 5,500 vehicles, including more than 1,300 of these being freight vehicles will travel on this section of the highway per day and with these numbers expected to double by 2025, this project will accommodate these volumes. ______________________________________________________________________________
