Scope
BMD was engaged on one of Queensland’s largest power stations to design, procure, construct, and commission the mine’s technically advanced ash disposal system.
The system collects, liquefies, pumps, transfers, and places ashy slurry from the two power stations to a disposal site 5 kilometres away.
The ash contraption involved the installation 2 kilometres of 150 millimetres in diameter, extra strong, carbon steel pipe, a megalitre steel tank, support structure and agitator to convert the ash to slurry (55% concentration).
Outcomes
BMD successfully managed the entire turnkey process including mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and control features. BMD’s key initiatives for success included prompt design development, identifying and expediating procurement of long lead time items, and focusing on commissioning and operations early. Ultimately, ash placement in the mine void met the strict geological and environmental mine requirements.
