Seventh Street extension opens to traffic

BMD Constructions has delivered Christmas cheer to Sydney Domestic Airport users with the opening of five new dedicated exit lanes for motorists departing the airport on to Qantas Drive, Mascot.

Sydney Airport Corporation appointed BMD Construction in April to construct the Seventh Street Extension project which opened to traffic overnight.

BMD Constructions General Manager NSW/ACT, Craig Smith said “The opening of five dedicated exit lanes via Seventh Street on to Qantas Drive ahead of Christmas is a massive achievement that will benefit the large number of travellers expected through the airport over the holiday period”.

The project is part of Sydney Airport Corporation’s T2/T3 Ground Access Solutions and Hotel Major Development Plan that was approved by the federal government in March 2015. The extension of Seventh Street is stage 1 of the project.

To date BMD Constructions has removed several redundant buildings and aircraft hangars, relocated existing services and extensive asphalting activities. The project team was involved in route optimisation for a number of new services, ensuring the new infrastructure will meet the needs of the airport for years to come.

While the Seventh Street extension is open to traffic the project team will remain on site to deliver further works ahead of the project’s anticipated completion in 2016.
