Queensland’s BMD Group to power $2bn infrastructure pipeline with TechnologyOne
Queensland corporate powerhouses BMD Group and TechnologyOne have joined forces in a new seven-year, $17 million partnership that will see the nation’s largest privately owned civil contractor invest in a major technology upgrade to transform and power a pipeline of approximately $2bn of projects in Australia every year. The deal – which brings together two of Queensland’s largest private and listed enterprises – has been formally announced today. It will re-engineer the way BMD Group manages projects across Australia with approximately 120 projects running concurrently at any one time, a number which is set to grow by both number and value due to a strong pipeline of work. This pipeline includes major Queensland projects such as Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to Curra Section D, Townsville Northern Access Intersections Upgrade and the Douglas Water Treatment Plant Water Clarifiers, in addition to other nation-building infrastructure projects such as Darwin Ship Lift, Western Sydney Airport landside roads and services package and the $700 million Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal in Perth. Over the past year, BMD Group completed 288 projects and was awarded a further 384 more. For TechnologyOne, the agreement with BMD Group is one of its largest partnerships in the construction sector. It will see BMD Group adopt TechnologyOne’s market-leading OneAsset enterprise software solution, an essential technology for corporations to manage high-value assets and projects on time and on budget. It will enable BMD Group to better manage all aspects of its growing $2bn infrastructure pipeline across the entire project lifecycle. BMD will also leverage App Builder, TechnologyOne’s newly announced simple, no-code toolset that further extends the TechnologyOne software. App Builder will allow BMD to create applications inside the TechnologyOne ecosystem – to manage the development sales lifecycle or project controls framework for example – with no code and little training, empowering BMD to further personalise the software solutions for their business in real-time. The technology upgrade will be widely implemented across the BMD Group with the new technology system to be used directly by the company’s 1,700+ employees and indirectly by its growing contractor network of up to 30,000. Commenting on the partnership, BMD Group CEO Scott Power said: “The construction industry has traditionally been behind the curve when it comes to digital and technology transformation – until now. “This transformative partnership with TechnologyOne is a gamechanger not just in positioning BMD Group at the forefront of change, but in demonstrating how our industry can better use technology to underpin the incredibly important work being done by the entire sector to keep our nation’s economy and communities moving. “We understand that as we scale in Australia and pursue new international expansion opportunities, we needed a modern and cutting-edge technology platform to put us at the front of digital transformation in our industry. “The new TechnologyOne partnership achieves just that. It will massively increase productivity and in turn, be a difference maker in supporting our people by equipping them with the right technology and tools they need to manage what is an unprecedented pipeline of work for our company, which now stands at more than $2bn.” TechnologyOne CEO Ed Chung said: “”When BMD Group approached us, it was evident from the very beginning they were serious about undergoing a genuine transformational technology project for the construction industry. “They needed a comprehensive, group wide SaaS deployed Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution, tailored specific to their individual needs, that would replace their legacy systems and business processes which were often manual and labour intensive, nor sufficient to support their growth plans or increasingly mobile workforce. “After a competitive tender process, we were absolutely delighted to be chosen by BMD Group to deliver a project that will be transformational for the construction industry. It will ensure they have the right business processes and technology in place to boost productivity with a software suite that covers the totality of the project lifecycle. “We’re particularly excited to be undergoing this work with another of Queensland’s best companies in BMD Group, who share our values and are committed to a genuine technology revolution in the construction sector.” The BMD Group is one of Queensland’s largest private enterprises with more than $1.6bn of revenue achieved nationally in FY22. It owns and operates five core companies engaged in the design, construction, project management and land development sectors. These five companies being BMD Constructions, BMD Urban, Empower Engineers & Project Managers, JMac Constructions, and Urbex.
